The Missoula Children’s Theatre’s Community Series is excited to begin the year with the comedic Moon Over Buffalo and offer a performance with open captions.
The play was written by Ken Ludwig and directed by Jasmine Sherman. It runs from January 15-25, with open captions on Saturday, January 24.
The comedy, rated PG-13, is set in Buffalo, New York, in 1953, with a plot that centers on George (Michael Crowley) and Charlotte Hay (Jesse Ballard), two aging stage actors desperate to save their careers from obscurity. Charlotte’s interfering mother, Ethel (Alicia Bullock-Muth), provides much of the misunderstanding, madness and what’s that word…mayhem to the story.
“We have a very wide range of age and experience in this cast of 14 actors (7 making their MCT debut), and that’s what I love most about community theater,” Sherman said. “It is a safe space for people to try new things, get outside of their comfort zones, and to relish the joy and love of theater. Also, I’m excited to offer an open-captioned performance of this show for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. This is something I have implemented at my own theater company MissCast Productions. I’m so excited to bring it to the MCT stage!”
During the open-captioned performance, captions will be shown on a TV monitor in front of the stage on house left, similar to subtitles on television. To reserve a seat in the open captions section, please call the box office at (406) 728-7529 or visit MCTinc.org.
